Best Announcement Ever!
Seriously – I laughed just reading this. Possibly the greatest thing that could possibly happen to “The Office” has happened. Will Farrell will begin in episodes this season, and replace Steve Carell (who had announced his departure previous). I’m not one to get into celebrity gossip, but this is going to either be The Greatest Spectacle of All Time, or The Worst Spectacle of All Time.
I’m reminded of a similar switch that didn’t end up successful, on the once popular comedy “News Radio” when Phil Hartman (R.I.P.) was replaced by Jay Sherman. The replacement bombed because Sherman didn’t bring anything new to the role and fans didn’t want to see a shorter Phil with darker hair.
The challenge will be similar, but if anyone can pull it off, its going to be Will Farrell. Talladega Nights, “More Cowbell” and “The Old Prospector” on SNL, as well as his role in Night at the Roxbury are indelible in my mind as humor genius. One last mention, “Elf”, standing next to “Jingle All The Way” being my two favorite Christmas movies.
I’m looking forward to this addition to the office. Let’s hope that the rest of the actors already entrenched in their roles will be able to adapt to a new routine. If so, it will be brilliant.
